“Children must be taught how to think and not what to think.”

By: Plutarch

It is important for children to learn letter-sound correlation because English uses letters (graphemes) in the alphabet to represent sounds (phonemes). Some sounds are represented by a single letter and some sounds are represented by more than one letter. Helping children associate sounds to letters makes it easy to decode unfamiliar words or predict the spelling of a word just by hearing the word. It is an effective technique and reduces the struggles to learn the complex language.
