It is important for children to learn letter-sound correlation because English uses letters (graphemes) in the alphabet to represent sounds (phonemes). Helping children associate sounds to letters makes it easy to decode unfamiliar words or predict the spelling of a word just by hearing the word. It is an effective technique and reduces the struggles to learn the complex language.
