Any kind of hands-on interaction with material is good for a child to enhance his/her problem-solving skills. Exploring toys and materials can feed their curious minds. It also gives children the opportunity to develop social skills (sharing, waiting for their turn, empathy etc.) It helps develop their fine and gross motor skills and nurtures their creativity and imagination. It is also called Tactile learning.
Children can start benefiting from educational toys as early as one month old. Toys give kids another avenue to explore science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Whether a toy is simple or complex, they have their unique significance. The youngest of children learn to manipulate these toys, and thus develop their motor skills becoming more skilled at hand/eye coordination. As the children grow the significance and type of toys changes.
At an early age, sensory play helps stimulate a child’s senses. As a child continues to grow and develops eye-hand coordination, parents can begin introducing toys that encourage more interaction among peers. They will also build up their confidence once they’ve been able to figure out how a toy works after trial and error. Introducing the right toys to them will help in teaching balance and coordination.
